Stuffed coffee bread
Okay, actually it's not bread and there's no coffee in it either... but it's a sweet bread, perfect for kaffiboð (= coffee party).
We all love cinnamon rolls here - and when I found this recipe for the "filled coffee bread", I wanted to try it out for the weekend - with yeast dough and sugar-cinnamon, just a little fluffier than classic cinnamon rolls. It was well received by everyone - and my little granddaughter (2) was particularly thrilled!
 Ingredients
 50 g butter
 150 ml milk
 340 g flour
 1 pack of dry yeast
 1/2 tsp salt
 60 g brown cane sugar
 1/2 tsp cardamom
 100 g butter
 100 g brown cane sugar
 2 tsp cinnamon
 Preparation
 Warm the milk.
Add the butter for the dough to the milk and let it melt slowly.
In a large bowl, stir together flour, dry yeast, salt, sugar and cardamom.
Pour in the warm milk-butter mixture, stir in slowly and then knead everything into a nice dough.
Form a ball and let it rise, covered, for about 1 hour.
Meanwhile, for the filling, put butter, sugar and cinnamon in a bowl and mix thoroughly.
After rising, roll out the dough (approx. 25 x 35 cm)...
... and spread with the filling.
Then roll up the dough from the long side...
...place on a baking tray lined with baking paper and twist into a circle.
Then cover and let it rise for another hour.
Then brush the dough with an egg yolk and sprinkle with the sliced almonds...
...and then bake in a preheated oven at 350 °F (180 °C) for about 30 minutes until the coffee bread has a nice golden brown color.
After baking, let cool slightly, then cut into slices and serve. Bon appetit!
