SKÚBB

Eating ice cream in Reykjavík

After Sólveig from the restaurant " Nielsen " in Egilstaðir told us that they get the ice cream for their dessert from SKÚBB, it was clear that we still had to try this ice cream.

On the way back from the East Fjords we took a short detour to Reykjavík and each bought an ice cream for lunch.

We were there in the early afternoon, it was quite busy, people drove up and bought ice cream, young people were driven past by their parents, parents came with their smaller children.

The ice cream parlor is open daily from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. (at least now in summer).

SKÚBB produces handmade ice cream from selected, fresh and pure ingredients. Organic products are used wherever possible. The milk for the ice cream comes from the organic dairy Bío-Bú. Sustainability is also taken into account when it comes to disposable tableware - the bowls are made of paper and the spoons are made of wood.

The ice cream balls are - as is usually the case in Iceland - quite large, not to say huge for my taste. One ball costs (as of August 2019) 500 ISK (the equivalent of just under €3.70), two balls cost 700 ISK (a good €5.10) and three balls cost 900 ISK (approx. €6.60). Toppings cost 100 ISK each (just under €0.75). And there are lots of toppings to choose from.

My husband had a scoop each of milk ice cream and peanut jam ice cream and especially found the combination of peanut and jam very special and very tasty. Our son (8), who was traveling with us, had chocolate and vanilla, he licked up the vanilla with enthusiasm, he left a bit of chocolate left over, which wasn't quite his thing, even if it was actually quite tasty with the pieces in it. I chose salted caramel and cookies and found them both very good.

It was definitely worth following Sólveig's tip!
