Kjötkökur með brauði

Meatballs with bread

Ingredients

500 g minced meat
250 ml milk
2 slices of wheat toast
1 onion
2 Tbsp margarine
1 tsp salt
1 pinch of pepper
1 egg
1 Tbsp flour
2 Tbsp breadcrumbs
Margarine for frying

Preparation

Cut the white bread into small pieces and soak it in the milk so that it is well soaked.

Peel the onion and chop it finely.

Heat a teaspoon of margarine in a large pan and brown the chopped onion in it.

Then mix the minced meat, the soaked white bread with butter and the browned onions in a large bowl and season with salt and pepper.

Then shape the dough into flat, round cakes with moistened hands.

Whisk the egg on a soup plate and then coat the salted meatballs one after the other in the egg mixture, then in the flour and then in the breadcrumbs.

Heat the pan again, let the margarine melt and fry the meat cakes in batches until golden brown on both sides.

It's best to heat it in the oven at 250 °F (120 °C) for another 20 minutes while you prepare the side dishes.

Serve the meat cakes while they are still warm with boiled potatoes and vegetables.
