Our new book is published!

The time has finally come, our latest “baby” is here. Our new book has been published and I can now talk about this project, for which we have spent the last few months working intensively on Icelandic strawberry recipes.

Strawberries in Iceland?

What was once unthinkable is now reality. Geothermally heated greenhouses have made it possible to grow the fruit in Iceland since the late 19th century. Strawberries are very popular here and have become an integral part of Icelandic cuisine.

In our new book "Icelandic Strawberry Recipes" we present 20 recipes that show the versatility of the fruit in Icelandic cuisine:

From hot and cold strawberry soup, sweet desserts and cakes to salads, homemade strawberry jams and a refreshing strawberry cocktail - there is something for (almost) every taste!

In our new book we also tell you interesting facts about strawberry cultivation in the greenhouses in Iceland, the special eating habits of Icelanders and the history of strawberries (jarðarber) on this island in the far north.

By the way, my husband designed the cover on the computer. It should seem a bit "retro", convey a bit of the charm of earlier times and express that the recipe book is about traditional Icelandic recipes, about classic, uncomplicated, delicious home cooking.

My husband is really proud of his work - and I also think he did a perfect job on the cover! It tells exactly what we wanted to express and looks absolutely beautiful doing it!

How did the idea for the book come about?

The idea for the book came about in January, as a gift for a special friend who has been working as a strawberry picker in a greenhouse in Iceland for years. What could be better for me as a food blogger than to give her a photo book with some Icelandic strawberry recipes from my blog for her birthday? I had a lot of fun choosing recipes, editing a few more photos, trying out a special recipe and then putting the whole thing together as a photo book. Of course, my husband was once again responsible for the fine-tuning of the layout, he did a wonderful job!

This year we were able to celebrate this friend's birthday with her in Iceland - and as a gift we gave her the photo book with the recipes and a self-knitted strawberry hat.

By the way, I really like the hat myself - now I have one myself. And now there's also the corresponding strawberry jacket, with which I've happily walked around in Iceland. I'll be able to take promotional photos for the book with the jacket soon!

“You really live it with the strawberries!” - that was a friend's laughing comment about my husband's new strawberry shirt, which I gave him for our wedding anniversary two weeks ago (to match our new book, of course). Yes, of course we do, we live our shared passion for strawberries! However, my husband isn't quite sure on what occasions he could wear his new strawberry shirt in future...
