Lava Lopapeysa

I knitted...

Sorry, we've been in a state of emergency recently – one of our sons has contracted the coronavirus, which has thrown everything into disarray. But he's slowly getting better, so I have time and interest in other things again – for example, I finally finished knitting the "Lava Lopi" for my husband!

Before Christmas, I had already knitted "lava hats" for my husband and me because I had seen similar hats in the tourist shop in Iceland and I liked them so much – fitting for the volcanic eruption at Fagradalsfjall last year.

Then I really let my hair down and knitted a matching sweater, or rather a jacket, for my husband, with the same bright orange pattern as the hat.

It took a while, but the cardigan is finally finished before summer. I present: The Lava Lopi.

The typical Icelandic sweaters are called " lopapeysa " in Icelandic, or "lopi" for short. I based my knitting pattern on this pattern and then knitted a collared cardigan in black and orange.

The sleeves turned out more bell-shaped than necessary, and I mismeasured the zipper and then had to adjust it again - but all in all, I'm happy with the result and so far my husband loves wearing his lava hat, and I hope he will do the same with the whole outfit!

Let's see if Mr. Jäger will soon be standing by the cooled lava at Fagradalsfjall...
